Project Description

In this design course the assignment was to design a fully glass structural Aurora observatory for a chosen location in Iceland. Together with my group we chose for the location with a waterfall in order to challenge ourselves. We were asked to design, materialize, calculate (therefore validate) and detail the observatory.

We started off with a complex design shape and rationalized this throughout the design process in order to make the design more realistic.

My task over the course of this project was doing the calculations (moment & stress), rationalzing the design (I had to be the party pooper with bad news), choosing the type of glass, making the renders, making a passive climate design, designing the floor plans and making visual representations of the structure. Below in the gallery you can find my work.
